Scientists have little understanding of the social dynamics of great white sharks. Normally lone hunters, they congregate at certain times of the year and suddenly become social creatures. For the first time, shark experts Dr Riley Elliott and Kori Burkhardt host a thrilling competition unlike any other, aiming to uncover which male great white shark reigns as the alpha in the pack. This unique showdown tests the sharks’ speed, hunting prowess, and fearlessness to uncover the leader of the pack who will get first mating rights with the big females when breeding season begins. Throughout the competition five key sharks go head-to-head in a series of contests, while the massive females - up to twice the size of the males - watch and judge. BOSS SHARK dives deep to observe never-before-seen shark behaviour.

Big Cats, Small World

On the shores of Botswana’s Gomoti River, Africa’s three Big Cats have made themselves at home. This summer, as some embark on a journey to parenthood; others are nearing its end. An aging lion has his hands full with new cubs, and rivals that could kill them; a cheetah mother is racing to get her five cubs to independence, while a male leopard embarks on a bumpy journey to fatherhood. Winter floods bring opportunity, and tragedy to the lions, and challenge the young cheetahs adjusting to life without their mother. In the woodlands nearby, a leopard mother battles to protect her cubs against intruders. To succeed, all of these cats must use their unique skills to avoid lethal encounters, outsmart rivals, and thrive in a crowded neighbourhood.

Red Crabs Crazy Ants

Christmas Island is home to the yearly mass migration of red crabs. Each year many of the crabs fall victim to the alien yellow crazy ants. These ants release formic acid as they crawl over and around the crabs which, with no defence against the ferocity of the onslaught, become stressed and generally die within a few hours.
